Time for a player revolt and Ken's Cafe to get extra salt and pepper pots and bottles of sauce in...

... although I'm not sure who's going to play the Malcolm Allison role

Don't rate BFS at all...
...but he is correct in saying we had as many on target goal attempts as City...3...

...and we gifted them their 2 goals with mistakes...Collins OG...and Downing's give away that set up their second...

City really didn't do much more...either because they coasted...we blunted their attack...most efforts off target...]Combination of all 3...

BFS' biggest mistakes were conceding possession...advantage...mental defeatist attitude...playing CFC alone up front...reducing Valencia's effectiveness by playing him wide...

All the above were compounded by our key midfielders all having very poor games and continually losing possession to City...(Noble...Song...Downing)...

YOU are PATHETIC.

Now go away and support someone like Liverpool - we DON'T need losers like you supporting West Ham.

A good team gradually deteriorated to pretty crap as the season has gone on. Can't be the players, they have been managed poorly.

Fucking dreadful that today like we all knew it would be.

If you went up to see that shit today you're officially a proper MUG.

Re: Man City v West Ham - Official Match Thread 2-0
The lack of options for the player in possession today was fucking woeful. It was either launch it down the channels for poor ol Carlton to get nowhere near or try and hold it, have too many touches and end up under huge pressure.

Of course this is no different to the majority of the last four seasons. Once a defensive fearful mindset kicks in, it makes it increasingly difficult to build attacks or keep possession. Was the same last week.

Re: Man City v West Ham - Official Match Thread 2-0
But this was surely a WRITE OFF game where we had no chance of winning so why try? A bit like Chelsea really. I mean it is IMPOSSIBLE to go to big teams and win, no other team in the league has done it so we can't surely?

Re: Man City v West Ham - Official Match Thread 2-0
What really pissed me off today was, first of all, Allardyce, in his pre-match interview, as good as saying we would get beat and then the players coming out believing exactly that.

No belief, no hope and no chance.

What an insipid performance and we could quite easily have repeated the 6-0 League Cup scoreline.

It's all depressingly familiar.

Re: Man City v West Ham - Official Match Thread 2-0
Quite obviously we have been coached poorly. When you mix that with over hyped pre season buys - Cresswell really is very poor defensively, valencia is just atrocius, Sakho has shown his true form the last 6 games he has played after his freak once in a career lucky streak, Song is disinterested as with every other club he has played for - our recent run of form should be no surprise.

Re: Man City v West Ham - Official Match Thread 2-0
Its probably at least 80 20 in favour of tactics and coaching being the problem. However, sakho's outrageous shot to goal ration also had to dry up. At one point it was the best in Europe.

I think it's a bit of both. But of course they're connected - you can't train players to effectively be robust automatons rebuilt to the Allardyce blueprint without it hurting their technical abilities. As we can see on the pitch, creativity and fluency has been gradually worked out of this group of players. It's the legacy the manager leaves on the clubs he manages imo.

I think there's a lot more of a rebuilding job required here than many think.

That is such bollox
Jenkinson has played for arsenal song arsenal and Barcelona
Downing Liverpool kouyate ha splayed in the champions league do you honestly think these players can't trap a ball or pass it....??

This is simply down to coaching our players are not coached to keep the ball if they're under pressure
They are told to punt the ball into certain areas or get the ball into the box at the earliest opportunity

Certainly agree with that. Somehow what was going so well for Downing has been completely lost. I'd like to see the player move on in the Summer. I feel he is just too much of a fair-weather player.

Wher I agree with you about Downing in one sense he was very good up to just before Xmas certainly not a few games as you suggest but where I don't agree is ALL his best games where at the point of the point of the diamond he then got shifted from there to accomodate Nolan and even though he's been played there a couple of times recently imo he's bedn played out of form
I think you saw today that Valencia is a forward end of
I was watching the game on my phone and had loads of kids running about but he was like you say lost then he gets pushed up top and causes problems imo again he's another player played out of position so hes so out of form even when played up top he's struggled

Iron2010 6:34 Sun Apr 19
Re: Man City v West Ham - Official Match Thread 2-0
The formation and tactics have without question been the cause of the decline not the quality of the players. All attacking instincts have been knocked out of the new players to be replaced with Sams much loved defensive shape. Basically bodies on the edge of our area. Being set up so deep has implications all over the field.

Sir Alf 6:30 Sun Apr 19
Re: Man City v West Ham - Official Match Thread 2-0
Our issues are no doubt down partially to BFS tactics and team set up, roles etc.

But we also have too many players who are not comfortable enough on the ball throughout the team. Some of that is down to the legacy of the BFS squad that got us promoted and kept us in the Premiership. His blueprint is tall, strong, physical units rather than more mobile, technical types.

We cannot find the movement, pace and passing options to open up teams with passing and possession. Again today, we play it around in deeper positions and across the park but eventually have to resort to the direct ball as we are closed down. Watching even Villa today, they are able to play a passing game at speed with short interchanged passes. That is what BFS derides as "tippy tappy" football and while even the better teams use a direct ball at times they are abe to play to feet much better than us.
